MikroTik RME5009 Rackmount Kit in Lebanon
MikroTik RME5009 (K-79): Rackmount Up to 4 RB5009 Routers in 1U
The MikroTik RME5009 (product code K-79) is a 1U rackmount enclosure designed to hold up to four RB5009UG+S+IN, RB5009UPr+S+IN, or L009 series routers in a standard 19-inch server rack. Instead of each router occupying its own shelf space, the K-79 lets you stack four units side by side in a single rack unit — saving 3U of rack space per four routers.
HI-GAIN stocks the RME5009 at our Dora, Beirut warehouse alongside the full RB5009 product line. For Lebanese ISPs, data centers, and network operators consolidating MikroTik infrastructure, this kit solves a common space problem without compromising airflow or cable access.
RME5009 Technical Details
Build Quality and Materials
The K-79 is fabricated from high-quality sheet metal with a black powder-coat finish. The enclosure includes mounting screws and 19-inch rack ears that bolt directly into standard square-hole or round-hole rack rails. Each RB5009 slides into its dedicated slot within the tray, secured by integrated retention clips.
Compatible Devices
The RME5009 supports four device families:
- RB5009UG+S+IN — 7x Gigabit, 1x 2.5G, 1x 10G SFP+, quad-core 1.4 GHz ARM, 1 GB RAM
- RB5009UPr+S+IN — Same as above with PoE output on all 8 Ethernet ports (up to 130W total)
- L009UiGS-RM — Compact single-Gigabit router with SFP
- L009UiGS-2HaxD-IN — Same as L009 with WiFi 6
Dimensions and Airflow
The K-79 occupies exactly 1U (44.45 mm height) in a 19-inch rack. The enclosure allows passive airflow around each router, matching the RB5009's fanless passive cooling design. No forced-air fans are added by the kit — the routers rely on their own heatsink design, which dissipates the RB5009's maximum 31W power draw without active cooling.
Why Rackmount the RB5009 in Lebanon?
Space-Constrained Server Rooms
Lebanese ISPs and businesses often operate from compact server rooms in commercial buildings across Beirut, Jounieh, and Tripoli. Rack space is a finite resource. Four RB5009 routers mounted individually would consume 4U or more of shelf space with uneven cable routing. The RME5009 reduces that to 1U with clean, consistent port access across all four units.
ISP Point-of-Presence (PoP) Consolidation
A mid-sized Lebanese ISP running separate RB5009 routers for different subscriber zones — one for Beirut, one for Mount Lebanon, one for VPN concentrator duty — can consolidate all four into a single 1U tray. Each router remains fully independent with its own power input, Ethernet ports, and SFP+ cage. The RME5009 is purely a mechanical housing; it does not share any electrical or network connections between the routers.
Data Center Deployments
Lebanese data centers in Beirut's Dora and Mkalles districts host colocation clients who need cost-effective routing. Four RB5009 routers in 1U provides four independent routers with a combined 28 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 4x 2.5G ports, and 4x 10G SFP+ uplinks — all for a fraction of what a single enterprise router costs.
RB5009UG+S+IN — The Router Inside the Rack
The RB5009UG+S+IN is MikroTik's most popular prosumer/small-ISP router. Key specifications that make it a natural fit for rack deployment:
| Specification | RB5009UG+S+IN |
|---|---|
| CPU | Marvell 88F7040, 4-core ARM64, 1.4 GHz |
| RAM / Storage | 1 GB DDR4 / 1 GB NAND |
| Gigabit Ethernet | 7 ports |
| 2.5G Ethernet | 1 port |
| 10G SFP+ | 1 cage |
| USB | USB 3.0 Type A |
| Max Power | 31W |
| Cooling | Passive (fanless) |
| RouterOS License | Level 5 |

Installation Steps for the RME5009
Step 1: Prepare the Rack
Clear 1U of space in your 19-inch rack. The K-79 uses standard rack mounting — no special cage nuts or proprietary rails are needed. Attach the included rack ears to the left and right side of the tray.
Step 2: Slide in the Routers
Each RB5009 slides into one of four slots from the front. The retention mechanism holds the router in place without tools. Ports face the front of the rack for easy cable access.
Step 3: Cable Management
With four routers in 1U, cable density is high. Use short (15-30 cm) patch cables from each router's ports to a nearby patch panel or switch. A CRS326-24G-2S+RM mounted directly above or below provides 24 Gigabit ports and 2 SFP+ uplinks for aggregation.
Step 4: Power Considerations
Each RB5009 requires its own power adapter (included with the router, not with the K-79). Four units draw a combined maximum of 124W (31W each), though typical draw under moderate load is closer to 40-60W total. A 200W UPS keeps all four routers running for 30+ minutes during Lebanon's power outages.
Alternative: The RB5009UPr+S+IN with PoE Output
The RB5009UPr+S+IN variant fits the same K-79 tray but adds PoE output (802.3af/at) on all 8 Ethernet ports with up to 130W total PoE budget. This turns each rackmounted router into a combined router-and-PoE-switch — useful for powering access points, IP cameras, or VoIP phones directly from the router without a separate PoE switch in the rack.
