Ubiquiti UCG Ultra Cloud Gateway — Lebanon Guide
Ubiquiti UCG Ultra: A Compact UniFi Controller for Lebanese Networks
The Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra (UCG Ultra) is Ubiquiti's entry-level UniFi OS console — a compact, USB-C powered device that runs the UniFi Network application with IDS/IPS at 1 Gbps throughput. It supports 30+ UniFi devices and 300+ clients, making it the right controller for small offices, retail stores, cafes, and home networks across Lebanon that want UniFi management without the rack-mount footprint or price of a Dream Machine.
HI-GAIN stocks the UCG Ultra at our Dora, Beirut warehouse. We provide local warranty, configuration support, and same-day pickup. Call +961 3 337 666 for current pricing.
UCG Ultra Hardware Specifications
Processor and Memory
The UCG Ultra runs a quad-core ARM processor paired with 3 GB of DDR4 RAM and 16 GB of onboard flash storage. This hardware supports the UniFi Network application, stateful firewall processing, deep packet inspection, and IDS/IPS at up to 1 Gbps — enough for any Lebanese fiber or DSL connection.
Network Ports
The device provides five RJ45 Ethernet ports: one 2.5 GbE port designated as WAN by default, and four 1 GbE LAN ports. The 2.5 GbE WAN port matters for Lebanese users subscribing to fiber plans above 1 Gbps — the UCG Ultra will not bottleneck your connection at the handoff point. Multi-WAN load balancing is supported, so you can configure a second WAN on one of the LAN ports for ISP redundancy.
Security and Firewall
The UCG Ultra includes a full security stack: stateful firewall, application-aware Layer 7 firewall with DPI and traffic identification, zone-based filtering by region/domain/application, content filtering, IDS/IPS with 55,000+ signatures (via Ubiquiti CyberSecure), and ad blocking. VLAN-based traffic segmentation keeps guest WiFi, staff devices, and IoT on isolated networks.
Physical Design
At 141.8 x 127.6 x 30 mm, the UCG Ultra is smaller than most smartphones laid flat. It powers via USB-C, draws minimal energy, and includes a 0.96-inch LCM status display showing WAN IP, throughput, and device count. It sits on a desk, mounts behind a monitor, or tucks inside a cabinet — no rack required.
UCG Ultra vs Dream Router vs UDM Pro Max
Lebanese buyers frequently ask which UniFi gateway to choose. The answer depends on network size, whether you need built-in WiFi, and whether you run UniFi Protect cameras.

When to Choose the UCG Ultra
You Want UniFi Management Without Built-in WiFi or NVR
The UCG Ultra is a pure controller and security gateway. It does not include WiFi radios or camera storage. This is an advantage, not a limitation — dedicated access points like the U6 Pro or U7 Lite provide better coverage and placement flexibility than any gateway with embedded antennas. The UCG Ultra manages those APs, applies firewall policies, runs DPI, and handles VPN tunnels.
You Run a Small Business or Home Office in Lebanon
A Beirut law firm with 6 staff, 3 APs, 2 cameras (on a separate NVR or cloud), and a PoE switch needs a controller — not a rack-mount server. The UCG Ultra sits on a shelf, consumes minimal power, and survives on a small USB-C power bank during outages. For Lebanon's power-unstable environment, low energy draw is a real operational advantage.
You Need Multi-WAN Failover
The UCG Ultra supports multi-WAN load balancing and failover. Connect your primary ISP to the 2.5 GbE WAN port and a backup 4G/LTE router to a LAN port reconfigured as WAN2. When the primary drops — common during storms or infrastructure work across Lebanon — traffic fails over automatically. No manual intervention, no downtime for VoIP calls or POS systems.
When to Choose the Dream Router Instead
The Dream Router (UDR) bundles WiFi 6 radios (2x2 dual-band, up to 3 Gbps aggregate), two PoE LAN ports, and 128 GB internal storage for UniFi Protect recordings into a single desktop unit. If you want a one-box solution for a small apartment or tiny office — gateway, AP, and basic NVR in one device — the UDR is the simpler choice. Its coverage reaches approximately 140 m² (1,500 sq ft).
The trade-off: the UDR's IDS/IPS throughput caps at 700 Mbps (vs. the UCG Ultra's 1 Gbps), its WAN port is 1 GbE (vs. 2.5 GbE), and the built-in antennas cannot match a dedicated ceiling-mount AP in a concrete-walled Beirut apartment.
When to Choose the UDM Pro Max Instead
The UDM Pro Max targets enterprise and ISP-scale deployments. With 5 Gbps IDS/IPS throughput, 8 GB RAM, 10G SFP+ ports, dual 3.5-inch HDD bays for UniFi Protect with RAID, and support for 200+ devices and 2,000+ clients, it handles multi-floor offices, hotel chains, and campus networks. If your deployment exceeds 30 UniFi devices, you need the Pro Max.
Deployment Architecture: UCG Ultra as the Core
A practical network for a Lebanese SMB using the UCG Ultra as the core:
- WAN: Fiber ONT connected to the UCG Ultra's 2.5 GbE WAN port
- Failover WAN: 4G LTE router on LAN port 4 (reconfigured as WAN2)
- Switch: USW-Pro-24-PoE connected to LAN port 1
- Access Points: 3–5 UniFi APs powered via PoE from the switch
- VLANs: Staff (VLAN 10), Guest (VLAN 20), IoT/Cameras (VLAN 30) — all segmented and firewalled through the UCG Ultra
This architecture costs a fraction of a Cisco Meraki or Aruba stack, runs without per-device cloud licensing fees, and is managed from a single UniFi dashboard accessible locally or via Ubiquiti's cloud portal.
