MikroTik LDF 5 in Lebanon — Specs & Dish Setup

By Dr. Rino Samaha, Founder of HI-GAIN · October 30, 2026

MikroTik LDF 5 in Lebanon: a 5 GHz feed that turns a satellite offset dish into a long-range link, up to 33 dBi. Specs and setup from HI-GAIN, Beirut.

What the MikroTik LDF 5 Is

The MikroTik LDF 5 (code RBLDF-5nD) is a small outdoor 5 GHz radio with a built-in 9 dBi antenna. LDF means “Lite Dish Feed”: it is made to sit in the feed holder of a satellite TV offset dish. The dish works as a reflector and focuses the signal, so a dish already on a roof becomes a long-range wireless link. MikroTik says a dish of up to 100 cm can give up to 33 dBi.

Because the LDF itself is a tiny box, it is cheap to ship and easy to carry up a ladder. HI-GAIN supplies the LDF 5 in Lebanon to WISPs, installers and businesses linking two buildings.

The single Ethernet port is 10/100, so one LDF 5 link carries under 100 Mbps. For more speed on one link, look at a Gigabit model such as the LHG XL 5 ac in our MikroTik LHG series guide.

Which Dish Fits the LDF 5?

Any satellite TV offset dish with the universal 40 mm feed holder. Take out the satellite LNB and put the LDF in its place. A bigger dish gives more gain and a narrower beam: it reaches further, but it needs more careful aiming and a firmer mount against wind.

How to Set Up an LDF 5 Link

  1. Mount: fix the dish firmly, take out the LNB and tighten the LDF 5 in the 40 mm holder.
  2. Power: the LDF 5 takes passive PoE from 10 to 30 V. The box has a 24 V adapter and a PoE injector: run outdoor-grade cable from the LDF to the injector indoors. Our PoE adapters and injectors guide explains passive PoE.
  3. Mode: its level 3 RouterOS licence does not allow a point-to-multipoint access point (MikroTik’s licence table). Use it as a client of an access point, or for a link between two points.
  4. Aim: an offset dish does not send straight out of its face, so point it roughly with a map, then finish the aim by watching the signal strength in RouterOS (Winbox), not by eye.

LDF 5, LHG or SXT?

Pick the LDF 5 when you already have an offset dish, or want the most gain for the money. If you have no dish, an LHG or SXT comes with its own antenna and is quicker to install: see our LHG series guide and our SXT series guide.
